Portable AI identity sounds simple: let a user or digital character move from one platform to another. In practice, an identity contains very different types of data, and making all of it portable would be a privacy mistake.<\/p>\n
A useful data model distinguishes public profile, verified credentials, creator rights, preferences, relationship state, long-term memories and private conversation history.<\/p>\n
Display name, avatar references, public bio and declared creator information are natural candidates for portability when the owner chooses to share them.<\/p>\n
Claims such as creator ownership, age eligibility or professional status may be portable as signed credentials rather than raw documents.<\/p>\n
An AI companion may remember sensitive details that were shared in one relationship context. Moving those memories to another app without explicit consent would violate user expectations.<\/p>\n
Users should be able to choose which attributes move. A new app may need a language preference but not a history of intimate conversations.<\/p>\n
Portability for a creator AI is not only about persona data. It also needs machine-readable permissions for likeness, voice, commercial use and revocation.<\/p>\n
Blockchains can anchor identifiers, permissions or proofs, but raw conversation history and media usually belong in private storage. Hashes can support provenance without exposing the content itself.<\/p>\n
If a credential or license changes, downstream applications need a way to learn that the old authorization is no longer valid.<\/p>\n
Portability only works when applications agree on field meanings and versioning. A decentralized identifier alone does not make two AI systems understand each other’s personality or memory formats.<\/p>\n
