Portable AI identity is useful only when portability does not become mass data exposure. Different layers of an AI social profile deserve different rules.
Public identity can travel easily
Display name, avatar, public bio and creator verification are natural portability candidates.
Credentials should be selective
A user may choose to carry proof of membership, creator authorization or account age without exposing unrelated data.
Preferences need consent
Language and interaction settings can improve continuity, but users should explicitly choose whether they move.
Private relationship memory should not default to export
Conversation summaries, emotional context and private chat history are sensitive. Portability should use user-selected summaries rather than silent bulk transfer.
Use scoped proofs
Verifiable credentials can prove a fact without copying the underlying private record. See Portable AI Identity Credentials.
Bottom line
Good portability separates public identity, optional credentials, user preferences and private relationship data instead of treating them as one export file.
